The State Attorney's Office have the constitutional and statutory duty
to prosecute offenders who knowingly write bad checks. Businesses
and individuals lose millions of dollars each year due to bad checks.
This results in higher consumer costs to offset these losses and
increases the impact to law enforcement and prosecution.
Therefore,
pursuant to Florida Statute 832.08, we have entered into a public/private
partnership to establish a Bad Check Restitution Program here in
Broward County to assist local merchants and individuals with bad
check losses. This program offers first time bad check offenders
the opportunity to avoid criminal prosecution by attending a mandatory intervention class and making full restitution to the
victim. Not all bad check writers will qualify for this program.
Serious offenders will be prosecuted aggressively through the court
system.
We
look forward to working with you in our Bad Check Restitution Program
that will benefit all law-abiding citizens and help your businesses
to continue operating successfully.
